Danish Minister of Environment and Food visits IWHR on Sino-Danish Strategic Sector Program on Water and Environment

On September 19, 2018, Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen of the Ministry for Environment and Food of Denmark, and Danish Ambassador to China A.Carsten Damsgaard led a 13-person delegation to visit IWHR on the issue of Sino-Danish Strategic Sector Program on Water and Environment (SSC). The delegation was received by Dr. Kuang Shangfu, President of IWHR, together with Mr. Li Ge from the Ministry of Water Resources, IWHR Vice President Dr. Peng Jing, and representatives from relevant departments of IWHR.

Dr. Kuang extended his warm welcome to the delegation. He briefed on the Danish guests on how IWHR, as the host of the Chinese secretariat of SSC, has helped advance Sino-Danish cooperation through talent, technological and financial means. IWHR has been involved in quite a number of seminars, workshops and site visits that are aimed at promoting best practices and top-notch technologies in the field of water resources, the environment, and water-related disaster control, etc. Dr. Kuang issued his wish for the SSC program continuing into the second phase.

Mr. Li Ge, Deputy Director-General from the Ministry of Water Resources of China, thanked the Minister for attending the meeting amid his tight schedule in China. Mr. Li took a review of the successes of the SSC program, and also shared his wish for deepening the bilateral water cooperation.

Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen expressed gratitude to IWHR for the warm reception. During his speech, he acknowledged IWHR’s contribution the SSC program, and mentioned some flagship water-related technologies Denmark was proud to have, and highlighted such areas as flood control and groundwater replenishing for future potential cooperation.

During the technical discussions, the two sides reported on groundwater management, flood control and drought relief, and related technology products.
