IWHR cosponsors the 10th China National Conference on Hydraulics and Hydroinformatics

2022-12-16

The 10th China National Conference on Hydraulics and Hydroinformatics, co-hosted by the Technical Committee on Engineering Hydraulics of the China Society for Hydropower Engineering (CSHE), the Technical Committee on Hydraulics of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) and the China Chapter of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), the Secretariats of which are all hosted at IWHR, was convened during November 14 and 16, 2022 in Nanchang City in south China’s Jiangxi Province.

The opening ceremony

Initiated in 2003, this conference has been serving as an exchange platform for Chinese researchers and professionals dedicated to cross-disciplinary research and practices on hydraulics and hydroinformatics. Such research and practices have provided solid scientific support for China’s high-quality development of the water sector, said IWHR Vice President Dr. Peng Jing in her opening remarks.

“Exchange and collaboration are needed among researchers and engineers as we face enormous opportunities as well as unprecedented challenges in this day and age, ” said Dr. Peng Jing.

The keynote speech session presented seven reports, most of which were made by Academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering:

·   “Hydropower Development and Innovation of Relevant Technologies for the Lancang River” by Academician Ma Hongqi;

·   “Frontier Issues in Research on Water Resources” by Academician Wang Hao;

·   “Challenges of Improving Water Quality in the Yangtze River Delta and Solutions” by Academician Zhang Jianyun;

·   “Research and Practices on Ecological Scheduling for the Irtysh River” by Academician Deng Mingjiang;

·   “Mesogenesis Analysis and Engineering Application of High Dam Hydraulics” by Academician Xu Weilin;

·   “Innovation and Development of Hydraulics in the Practices of Governing of Plain Rivers” by Academician Tang Hongwu;

·   “Cross-scale, Whole-process Simulation and Control of Seepage in Water Conservancy and Hydropower Projects” by Zhou Chuangbing, Principal of Nanchang University.

This year’s Conference gathered 66 experts to share the latest research and practices in four parallel sessions focusing respectively on engineering hydraulics, environmental hydraulics, ecological hydraulics and hydroinformatics, plus an English session for young water professionals to practice communicating their academic ideas in English.

The Conference received 158 papers and abstracts. A total of 121 of them were included in the conference proceedings and 25 were recommended to academic journals to showcase China’s achievements in hydraulics.
