Dr. PENG Jing, Vice President of IWHR, and Ms. CHI Xinyang, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Water Resources from the Beijing venue and Prof. Tsang-Jung Chang from the Taipei venue addressed the opening ceremony.
Dr. PENG Jing said that the pandemic might have prevented us from meeting face to face, but it cannot affect the exchanges and cooperation among young water professionals across the Taiwan Strait. She referred to the youth as the rising sun with vast creative potential and enthusiasm and the Youth Camp as a precious opportunity for them to gain knowledge, share views and build friendship and encouraged the young water professionals to devote themselves into the development of the time as they pursue their own dreams.
Ms. CHI Xinyang said the new pattern development in the water industry of the mainland brings new opportunities for the youth across the Strait. The youth are the mainstay for future water resources development and cooperation across the Strait, and she looked forward to a bigger role of them in creating a better future through a deeper understanding of water science and technologies.
Prof. Tsang-Jung Chang, the representative of the teaching staff from Taiwan University, expressed his warm congratulations on this year’s Youth Camp. He agreed with Dr. PENG Jing that this annual exchange mechanism, serving as a platform to boost water-related academic development, not only promotes knowledge and cultural exchanges but also strengthens the friendship and cooperation among students across the Strait. He encouraged students to fully demonstrate their talents and glories in this meaningful activity.
The Youth Camp invited young experts from IWHR and Taiwan University to tell their own stories linked with water and their career development. In the following activities, students shared their research, hobbies and interests and took a virtual tour together to the Palace Museum in Beijing through online broadcasting of student representatives.
