2016-09-05

A delegation of around 50 from University of Washington visited IWHR on August 30, 2016 for exchange and communication among students. IWHR President Kuang Shangfu welcomed the visiting faculty and students. More than 30 faculty members and students from IWHR participated in the exchange activity.

In his welcome speech, President Kuang Shangfu pointed out the three features of this delegation. First, it is composed of both US and Chinese students; second, all the visiting students are very young; and third, the topic of this visit is culture exchange which is not quite usual for a visiting delegation to IWHR. Dr. Kuang expressed his expectation for the students to grow into the backbone talents for international culture development and exchange in the future.

Professor Wang Yicheng, director of the Division of Postgraduate Education of IWHR briefed the delegation upon the postgraduate student education and international student exchanges of IWHR as well as the IWHR's plan to recruit foreign students.

The delegation also paid a visit to the labs of Department of Water Environment and had an in-depth discussion with the IWHR faculty members and students about the Chinese and US education, extracurriculum activities, and the China-US cultural differences. Through the visits and discussion, both sides enhanced mutual understanding and built up friendship, laying a solid foundation for further student exchange and personnel training in the future.
