As the first state-sponsored scientific and technological project of this type, the Research and Demonstration on Integrated Technologies of Rural Drinking Water Supply consists of 9 topics with a total fund of CNY 88.48 million.

Thirty-three key technological breakthroughs have been achieved in areas including water detection in water poor areas, treatment of high-fluorine water and wastewater, disinfection and water quality examination, storage and utilization of rainwater, standardization and informatization of water supply. Forty-three new materials, products and equipment have been developed, 49 national patents obtained (among which 21 are inventions and 5 software copyrights registration), 9 critical technological achievements made, 9 books and 163 papers published, 98 pilot projects built. A total population of 440,000 benefited from the program.
