The Large-scale Dynamic and Static Triaxial Laboratory is one of the core labs of China’s first soil dynamics laboratory (1958) created by the founder of Chinese soil dynamics, Academician Wang Wenshao. It has developed the world's first triaxial shaking table (1961), and led the development of China’s first 100-ton large-scale dynamic triaxial testing machine (1987), providing an advanced scientific research platform for the development of soil dynamics in China, as well as reliable basic data and technical support for water projects in China.

The Lab has undertaken the scientific research work for a number of national, provincial and ministerial key projects. Based on the results of large-scale dynamic and static triaxial tests, it has established the true nonlinear effective stress seismic response analysis method and seismic safety evaluation system for earth-rock dams, which has been applied in dozens of major earth-rock dam projects. A group of scientific research results have won national, provincial and ministerial awards, and have achieved significant economic and social benefits.
