Abstract: Some cracks have been found in the slabs and beams of underground powerhouse of a pumped-storage power station. The results of structural safety assessment showed that the whole structure was safe, but the cracks would adversely affect the durability of concrete, and even aggravated the fatigue damage of structures. The methods of local reinforcement are put forward which include chemical grouting, pasting carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) sheets, adding steel ribbed panels between beams and slabs, and putting up steel secondary beams at bottom of the long span slabs. This paper expounds the research methods of structure strengthening design, including the CFRP layers, the layout and connection of steel ribbed panels, and the connection of steel secondary beams and slabs. The research result of strengthening method showed that the further development of cracks have been restricted, and the safety of anti-fatigue components have been improved effectively, which ensure the safe operation of the plant. The results of this study can be used for similar projects.
