Progress and prospect of eco-hydraulic engineering

Abstract: Eco-hydraulic engineering is a new cross-discipline produced and developed in the background of ecological protection, which is a supplement and improvement to the traditional hydraulic engineering. This paper summarized the main progress of eco-hydraulic engineering for past decade, including the mechanism of hydraulic and hydropower project ecological impact, the river restoration planning method, the river health assessment, and reservoir operation considering ecological conservation and quantitative evaluation method of river ecological status. This paper made a prospect for the development of eco-hydraulic engineering, putting forward several academic frontier problems such as strategic research of hydropower resources development level, establishment of various pressure-response ecological models, migration fish protection technology, improving the reservoir operation method and research and development of technology integration.
