Abstract: The site selection of water sources for the nuclear power plant did not consider ecological environment in recent work. In this paper, the ecological cost in the water extraction was calculated using the opportunity cost method, market price method and restoration/protection method to quantify the influence of coastal nuclear power plant on the ecology. Taking the Putian nuclear power plant in Fujian province as a study case, the ecological impact evaluation system for site selection of water sources was built. It made a difference whether to consider the ecological factors on the evaluation. The study shows that the evaluation system with ecological factors is reasonable and feasible, which can provide reference for the site selection of water sources for the nuclear power plant.
Key words: coastal nuclear power plant, fresh water resource, selection, ecological cost
