Review of identification of shaft orbit for rotating machinery

Abstract: A review on the research progress of shaft orbit in terms of failure mechanism, orbit purification, feature extraction and identification is presented. Considering different characteristics, widely employed identification methods and principles of shaft orbits have been introduced. Comparisons of identification methods, including completeness of contents, boundedness of identification methods and efficiency of unknown fault, have been performed. Further research of precession direction and stability of shaft orbit is necessary. Fusion of various methods is the new trend of development. The development of signal analysis techniques will also provide reliable technical support.
