Abstract: With the rapid development of computer and monitoring technologies in recent years, more and more online monitoring devices of hydropower units have been installed and applied in hydropower plants. Although various diagnostic methods have been studied in depth, the methods mostly remain in beta test or constrained to an individual case. Effective and efficient fault diagnosis system is still unavailable, which has been a bottleneck in condition-based maintenance technology. In this paper, a fault diagnosis method for hydropower unit, which is based on expert system and hybrid reasoning, is proposed. With the construction of a large fault diagnosis center of Three Gorges Corporation, an open architecture software platform has been designed. By the collection and analysis of common fault cases, the system can make intelligent diagnosis for common faults, and provide the basis for the condition-based maintenance of hydropower unit eventually.
