Abstract: Land surface evapotranspiration, a sensitive factor reflecting change of water and heat conditions due to land use/cover changes, is a focus in the current research on the global climate change. In this pa per, Xilinhot of Xilingol League in Inner Mongolia is used as an area for case study. Based on SEBAL (Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land) model, the Landsat TM data acquired on August 17, 2005 is used for inversion study of surface evapotranspiration, and the evapotranspiration spatial variation pattern is analyzed. The results show that average daily evapotranspiration in Xilinhot is about 4.3 mm, and the maximum about 7.5 mm. Spatially, daily evapotranspiration is lower in the northwest and higher in the east. The areas with lower daily evapotranspiration are mainly in western, northern and southmost Xilinhot, and the evapotranspiration in central area is relatively low (close to 0).
