Abstract: During construction period of hydropower stations, the forecasted discharges can be used to get the corresponding water levels of the construction cross-section through inquiring the stage-discharge relationship curve of the cross-section. But the problem is that during the construction period it is difficult to get the stage-discharge relationship curve of the cross-section and the cross-section is changed greatly, so it may induce larger errors if the method above is used to forecast the water stage directly. In this paper, these problems are addressed by introducing a new method based on the water level coefficient. This method has been applied to the hydropower stations under construction in Yalongjiang River basin, and it has obtained good results, showing that the method is fairly effective.
